  1. That's my stepGrandfather, Charles WR Langdale. As a child, I was told that he was the first driver of Coronation 6220 and turned down going with Coronation (6229 as 6220) to the World Fair in New York because he was worried that problems with Hitler that war may start. He did not want to leave his 2nd wife, 2 daughters, and 4 stepdaughters on their own. History shows he made the correct decision. He was a "royal" train driver and took the King & Queen, Churchill, and Eisenhower around the UK. Churchill gave him one of his cigars. He was secretary of the Camden No1 branch of the NUR for many years until shortly before his death in 1961.
